classroom relationships

i had a student stick up for another one today by telling the class, "don't make fun of her. she is my girlfriend."

these are the two that actually work well together, sit by each other, etc. and are way, um, mentally and otherwise underdeveloped compared to the other students. a sort of awkward but nevertheless priceless situation.

of course my oh so mature 6th graders began singing ..... sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g .....
