speaking in kentucky

my kids know i'm from kentucky (*not* cincinnati, you'll all be pleased to know i was honest). a tss worker asked me why i don't have a southern accent and so i explained to everyone that some people in ky have an accent but i do not (at least not a southern one).

one of my students asked me later to say his name "in kentucky" - meaning a southern accent. i am terrible at accents, but his name is relatively easy. he's usually a huge jerk, but it calms him down when i say "(his name), you have got to sit down and get yourself together" in a fake-drawl.

i have yet to tell him that "kentucky" is not really an accent.
